“I Dig Canals” drop in event – bring your memories of the canals in the area!
October 26 at 14:00
An Alarum Theatre Productions event at Titford Pump House:
The ‘I Dig Canals’ project is seeking the memories and stories of women who were boating in the 60s and 70s, or even the 50s or 80s! You might have been involved in one of the restoration projects, or taking holidays on the water, working on or near the canals, or walking along watching them deteriorate or be restored…
We want to build a picture of what women were up to around the water in the Black Country and Birmingham, and your memories matter. You might have been at boat rallies or maybe you joined a campaign cruise along a difficult stretch of waterway to prove it could be done. Perhaps you had to look after the children or organise tea and sandwiches.
Feel free to bring along photos, boat logs or other memorabilia – with your permission we will copy, scan or photograph them, we won’t take them away. And we will check and note how you would like to be acknowledged if we use them.
There will be time to hear a bit about the project, to share your stories and any memorabilia you have brought.
There will be refreshments and we’ll finish the afternoon/evening off with a short performance of stories, poems and songs with local connections.
If you have any other stories or can’t make the event please get in touch by emailing IDigCanals@alarumtheatre.co.uk, or calling 01865 364095.
