SUMMARY:BCNS – Boat Gathering – Friday 22nd – Monday 25th May 2026
DESCRIPTION:BCNS invites you to attend our Summer Gathering of Boats at Titford Pump House over the weekend of the 22nd/25th May. This year there is no charge to attend the event which will also coincide with the finish of the first Explorer Cruise (on Friday 22nd) and also the completion of the 24 hour Challenge on Sunday 25th. This will ensure a good showing of boats and provide some thirsty customers for our real ale bar.\n\nThe event will start with our Society AGM (and an EGM this year – details to follow in BP) together with a quiz after the formalities on Friday evening. This is a general knowledge style quiz and is open to all. We’re not having any entertainment this year as we have found that most boaters like to chat and drink and catch up with old friends.\n\nWe’ll have a mobile hot food wagon in the car park on the Sunday afternoon/early evening to cater for anyone\, but in particular for the weary challengers who are too tired to cook. On Sunday evening there will be a canal specific quiz for all you knowledgeable boaters. As ever\, we’ll also hold our duck race at some point over the course of the weekend.\n\nAs ever for a Society event\, it is very informal\, moorings are on a first come first served basis and everyone is welcome.\n\nDespite the informality\, insurance and CRT require all attendees to complete an Entry From which is attached to this email. Please return to Barrie Johnson as per the directions.\n\nbcns summer gathering of boats

SUMMARY:BCNS Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary General Meeting 22 May 2026
DESCRIPTION:Annual General Meeting \nThe 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Birmingham Canal Navigations Society will take place on Friday\, 22 May 2026 at 7.00pm at Titford Pumphouse\, Engine Street\, Oldbury\, B69 4NL. This coincides with the Society Summer Gathering of Boats at the Pumphouse. \n  \nBCNS Council has 15 members which is the maximum permitted by the Society’s Articles of Association. \n  \nThe following members are due to retire by rotation: \nMike Anson\, Bob Fox\, Kirsten Smith\, Jeff Carter\, Mike Rolfe\, Harald Joergens\, Marie Sherratt\, and Phil Wild. \nMike Anson\, Bob Fox\, Kirsten Smith\, Marie Sherratt and Phil Wild have indicated their willingness to stand again. \n  \nAny BCNS member may apply to stand for the Council. It is Council that appoints the actual positions on Council and the Society’s Articles of Association require nominations to be submitted no later than 14 days\, but not longer than 35 days\, before the date of the AGM.   \n  \nNominations may be submitted to the Society Secretary\, Michael Smith-Keary\, from Friday 17 April but in any event no later than Friday 8 May\, with confirmation that the person being nominated is willing to be a Council Member.  \nPlease also note that there will be an EGM immediately following the AGM. \nEGM – Friday 22 May 2026 to follow the AGM. \nGoverning Council has called an Extraordinary General Meeting to follow straight after the AGM on Friday 22 May at Titford Pumphouse. \nYour Council has considered and voted unanimously that the Society should convert to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This is a purpose built vehicle set up by the Charity Commission to allow smaller charities that are both registered charities and limited companies to merge into a single entity. One benefit is that we will only be required to submit one report and accounts annually rather than a different version to both the Charity Commission and Companies House. It also gives us the opportunity to update our constitution in line with current practice but it most definitely does not change our aims and objectives. In effect it is an internal house keeping exercise to keep our constitution relevant and reduce bureaucracy. A copy of the proposed Constitution will shortly be available to view on our website. Alternatively\, a hard copy is available to view by appointment at Titford Pumphouse\, B69 4NL or a copy can be requested from the secretary.  \nWe are required to submit the following resolutions to the Extraordinary General Meeting. \n
