There are too many pubs close the the Birmingham canals to list them all. But, as so many boaters have dogs, we are trying to compile a list of dog friendly pubs! They should be within walking distance from the canal.
We need your help:
If you know a pub
that deserves to be on the list, please let us know! Either via the comments form below, or by email to webmaster@bcnsociety.com. We need the name, address, and, if possible, the website URL. It would be great tif you could add a few words about the venue – sort of a testimonial. Please let us know if we can publish you name with it!
It would help fellow boaters if you could mention where you moored, and, approximately, how long it took to get to the pub – and back…
If you have a great photo
of a dog in a pub, or, even better, a boaters dog in a pub – it could become the title photo for Dog-friendly pubs! Of course you would be credited. The photo should have at least 1500 pixels on the longer side, and in landscape orientation. The decision to publish will be an unanimous one by the webmaster himself.

I can recommend the Victoria, 23 Lower Rushall St. (junction with, and entrance on Intown Row), Walsall. Other side of town centre from the basin, about 10 mins brisk walk. Very friendly and down to earth local with excellently kept real ales. Last visit was the Monday prior to the first lockdown when I still had a dog…she passed away in January this year.
Also, and I’m surprised no one has recommended this next pub. I was there in September, minus my dog but I “temporarily adopted” plenty of other peoples’ dogs whilst in there: The Fountain, Owen St., Tipton. Moorings plentiful!
Another in central Birmingham is the Craven Arms, Upper Gough St. Black Country Inns owned so excellent real ales available. Closest Moorings are by Salvage turn (I KNOW it’s on the WRONG side of the Worcester Bar but for an extra 5 mins walk you could moor on the BCN.)
