2020 BCN Annual Cleanup report

Our weekend of hard labour, on March 14/15 2020, was very successful, we had a good time grappling and sorting junk for scrap metal.

The Saturday got off to a good start in reasonable weather. With support from the Canal & River Trust, Coombeswood Canal Trust and Inland Waterways Associations Waterways Recovery Group, the Walsall Canal from Ryders Green to Walsall and a bit of the Tame Valley Canal were dragged.

Our workboat Phoenix went to Walsall and returned late on the Saturday evening, overloaded with rubbish, tyres and the ever present shopping trolleys.

More of the same on Sunday, with a short trip up the Bradley Canal Arm from Moorcroft Junction.  The BCNS truck was loaded with scrap (thanks to the Hi-lift grab driver!) and Phoenix returned to the BCNS headquarters at Titford Pumphouse on Monday, loaded with more scrap metal, all of which will be sold to a local scrap merchant to raise funds for future actives.

  1. Dear folks, I was on the 14/15th clean up. Are there any photos of the weekend for me to look at. I can only find the one at the top of this page.
Thank you for a great, rewarding weekend.

    1. Sue,

If you go onto the Waterways Recovery Site (Inland Waterway Group), they produce their own magazine covering the event in full detail and photos.
